Hygiene Instructions

It is extremely important to keep your mouth clean for good dental health and also to preserve that beautiful smile. These are a few simple steps:

  1. Brushing: For the best oral hygiene, use an electric toothbrush to clean the teeth. In case a manual toothbrush is being used, it should be held at a 45-degree angle to the gums. Short, circular strokes should be used to move the brush over each tooth. Teeth should be brushed at least twice a day. Brushing should be done on the front and back of all the upper and lower teeth and also on the tongue. Toothbrush should be changed every three months.
  2. Flossing: No matter how well you brush, there are some areas you just won’t be able to reach. Flossing is one way that helps maintain oral hygiene by getting rid of bacteria from spaces between the teeth that are difficult to reach by brushing simply. Start by holding the floss securely with each hand, and gently rub it upward and downward direction curving it towards each tooth to cover more surface area.
  3. Mouthwash: Cleaning with a mouthwash can reach areas of the mouth that toothbrush and deep cleaning of floss can miss. Rinsing aids to fortify enamel, checks cavities, and destroys bad breath bacteria.

NUTRITIOUS AND A BALANCED DIET

For a healthier mouth, what will a nutritious and a balanced diet consist of ? Here’s a few tips:

  1. Choose vitamin C
Vitamin C which is found in oranges, mandarins, strawberries, tomatoes and numerous other fruits and vegetables, contains antioxidants that help guard gums and other tissues from cell damage and other infections. Vitamin C also aids in the production of collagen, which helps in maintaining the strength and integrity of the gums.
  2. Dine on dairy
Dairy products such as milk, cheese and yoghurt are a rich source of calcium and vitamin D and help develop healthy teeth and bones and decrease the risk of tooth loss. Calcium, specifically, helps protect the teeth against periodontal (gum) disease, and vitamin D is required by the body to ingest and utilise the calcium.
  3. Enjoy it raw
Crunchy fruits and raw vegetables, such as apples, guava, pears, carrots, and celery, help cleanse plaque from teeth and freshen breath. The high water content increases the production of saliva, which helps to wash away food particles.
  4. Go dark and green
Consume dark green leafy vegetables, such as broccoli and spinach. Peas and asparagus are excellent options too as they contain folic acid, which helps in building a healthy mouth by supporting cell growth and cell repair throughout the body.
  5. Stay hydrated
Water contributes in the production of saliva, which is the best protection of the mouth against tooth decay and degeneration because it contains proteins and minerals that aid to counteract enamel-eating acids. Sugary soft drinks and juices should be avoided.
